Alta Pusteria Gourmet Region

Alta Pusteria is renowned for its excellent cuisine and the high quality of the ingredients used. South Tyrolean cuisine can be described as a "symbiosis of Alpine and Mediterranean" as we find genuine traditional dishes and light Mediterranean dishes.

Dumplings, ravioli and barley soup, but also local confections like "Strauben", "Buchteln" or apple tarts are typical of South Tyrolean cuisine. You can taste the South Tyrolean specialities in one of the many restaurants or alpine huts in Alta Pusteria. You should also try a traditional Tyrolean top-up snack called "Marende" once: this is an interim meal in the afternoon with various types of breads, South Tyrolean bacon, smoked sausages, and a good glass of wine.

From a border region to a gourmet region in the heart of Europe

Numerous farmers in Alta Pusteria cooperate with other economic sectors and project partners from East Tyrol and Belluno within the framework of the Interreg IIIA project "Alpine farming at the border - Alta Pusteria Gourmet Region". The project area in Alta Pusteria stretches from Monguelfo to Sesto and comprises the communities of Monguelfo/Tesido, Casies, Baries, Villabassa, Dobbiaco, San Candido, and Sesto. To the East, the project extends to the East Tyrolean Alta Pusteria.

Thanks to this cooperation consumers have access to a variety of tasty and healthy quality products, and at the same time contribute to the preservation of agriculture and the beautiful cultural landscape. Farmers take their future into their own hands and take on more responsibility for their own cultural landscape. Appreciation of their products is the best reward we can give to the farmers, and moreover also a successful synthesis of the useful with the pleasurable!
