Artists and poets have always been attracted by charming landscapes like the one surrounding the Three Peaks. No wonder so many artists felt at home in Alta Pusteria. For this reason, the region features many historic monuments and artistic sites: prehistoric cultural sites and works of art dating back to Romanesque, Gothic and late Baroque or the Belle Époque.

Ancient buildings and noble art are closely connected to the history and the development of Alta Pusteria. The Parish Church of Saint John the Baptist is one of the most important Baroque buildings in the Puster valley. And famous artists like Gustav Mahler, Rudolf Schraffl and Sebastian Baur have left their marks. Not to forget the "Red Tower" (Hornberger Tower - 1430). The tower received the name thanks to his red coat of paint.
Many traditions and customs are based on religion. Since the belief in Gold was very strong in the Alps, many customs were preserved for a long time also in the Dolomites-"UNESCO World Natural Heritage", some are still alive.
